After earlier this year, Microsoft’s Surface was introduced in
AT&T stores, now the “touchy” device made its way in Harrah's Entertainment’s
casino in Las Vegas.
Unveiled last year at D: All Things Digital conference by
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, Surface is basically a 30-inch display in a
table-like form factor that users interact with through touch, natural gestures
and objects placed on the surface.
If AT&T is using Surface to help its clients to make informed
decision about cell phones and other services, in Las Vegas Microsoft’s gadget
has a different user.
Harrah's Entertainment has installed six customized Surface
computers in a bar at its Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.
As you can imagine, Harrah’s has created special
applications for Surface. For example, one of them is called Flirt and the name
says it all. This application allows
guests to create an exciting new way to chat and meet people from one Surface
to another. Strategically placed video cameras at each Surface add even more
energy to the action, allowing guests to interact with old friends, flirt with
new acquaintances, and take and send photos across the lounge.
And while the guests are enjoying their flirts, why not try
a cocktail? Harrah’s Entertainment’s Surface offers “Mixologists”, an food and
beverage application through which the customers are able to create and order
their own signature cocktails for themselves or to send to that special someone
across the room.
Surface also offers a suit of games, called Head Games such
as High Roller bowling, Dissed multiplayer pickup pinball, and a Last Call
musical memory game that encourage the whole group to play together.
In addition to Harrah’s unique applications and play-for-fun
games, the Surface units also feature a photos application and a virtual
concierge application developed by Microsoft that Harrah’s customized for its
environment.
