Microsoft’s Live Mesh Opens To New Users

The team behind Live Mesh has announced in a blog post that it had doubled the maximum number of users which will be allowed to access the Live Mesh Technology Preview.

Also the Tech Preview sign-up process was simplified by the removal of the requirement to sign up via Microsoft Connect. Instead those so wish to sing up can do it directly from www.mesh.com.

Microsoft announced the availability of Live Mesh in April. Live Mesh enables devices to work together and is in fact a software-plus-service platform that connects devices (PCs, and soon Mac and mobile phones) through the internet, making file sharing and folder synchronization a lot easier. There is also a piece of software which can be used to remotely connect and manage to any of the devices in a synchronization relationship, called Live Mesh Remote Desktop.

In addition to being able to access information from anywhere, Microsoft also introduced a “stay informed” feature which keeps track of all the activities on the mesh and keeps the user informed of all updates: online status of friends, who updated files or folders, check the status of his devices etc. Although only supported on Windows XP and Vista machines, support for the Mac and mobile devices will be added.

Last week, the Live Mesh team announced a major update, which added new features such as Sync Live Mesh folders peer-to-peer only. This will make it possible to synch files across the devices (or with devices of other members of a Live Folder) without consuming any storage space or quota in the Live Mesh cloud storage service.

The update also added news events for New Live Mesh folder and Delete Live Mesh folder.
