Microsoft said that this Black Friday was a real success for
its gaming console, Xbox 360. Although the company didn’t released any hard
numbers, Microsoft said in a press released that its gaming platform outsold
PS3 in a 3 to 1 report.
However, Microsoft has failed to mention if its console has
managed to outsell Nintendo Wii as well. According to a statement released few
days ago by eBay, Nintendo Wii was the best selling item on eBay sites during
the previous weekend.
Though is not so hard to believe that Xbox 360 had better
sales than PS3. In September, Microsoft has cut the prices of its gaming
console. The Xbox Arcade previously priced at $280 is now only $199.99. The
price is below the “magical” $200 mark, where historically 75% of console sales
occur after the price drops below this value, according to Microsoft.
The mid-range, 60GB version of the Xbox is only $299.99, while the 120GB Xbox
Elite sells for $399.99.
Meanwhile, Sony refused to cut the price of its PS3 and it seems
that this strategy didn’t paid off. Last year, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 outsold Sony’s
Ps3 just by a two-to-one margin.
But this victory could be too little too late for Microsoft,
as its console was constantly outsold by PS3 throughout this year.
According to the latest figures released by the NPD Group,
in October NintendoWii was the undisputed champion of gaming sales with 803,000Nintendo
Wiis sold compared to only 371,000 Xbox 360s.
Back in September when Microsoft announced its massive price cuts, a company
official said that the company expects a big boost in terms of sales. In September,
Microsoft sold 347,000 units.
However, until the NPD’s figures will be released later this
month, no one can verify Microsoft’s claims.
