It’s been almost a week since
Microsoft released Vista SP1, the most important update to its latest operating
system, and reactions have started to appear on both sides, the consumer and
the producer. Highly expected, yet disappointing for many of those who’ve
already tried it, SP1 gave birth to quite a controversy if we judge the
reactions.
Consumers started complaining of
numerous flaws, while at the same time Microsoft offered free support for
anyone who has trouble installing SP1, whether they are using a purchased copy
of Windows or it came with their HP laptop.
Trouble in paradise? News of
more and more unsatisfied customers started to emerge in the past few days,
since the release of the service pack. Some problematic drivers determined the
University of Pennsylvania staff to advice its students to be more reserved
about Vista and not to rush into installing SP1.
Microsoft should be very aware
by now that there are issues they still need to solve with the SP1, as users
complained on the company’s blog about the type of problems they’ve had to deal
with. One common denominator with all the complaints was related to driver
issues, that users said they were simply tired of.
One thing users have started to
ask themselves was: what is going on with Microsoft’s update? Many of the
Windows Vista users complained about receiving errors that were not listed on
Microsoft’s website, while some of them complained that they were unable to
pass the driver problems (Microsoft did say they have seriously tested the
drivers before releasing SP1).
It still remains unclear when
and how will Microsoft solve these problems, but they did take one good step in
that direction by offering free support: “We are offering free-of-charge
support to anyone who is having issues installing Windows Vista SP1,” said
Brandon LeBlanc on behalf of Microsoft on the company’s blog, in a discussion
with users.
