As Microsoft prepares to release the final version of the Service Pack 2 update for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, some of the company’s beta testers have recently received an important “update” for SP2 beta.
Some users pointed out that the new update significantly changed the internals of the first beta version of the Service Pack 2, leading many analysts to believe that the latest build may very well be the actual Release Candidate for SP 2.
However, Microsoft announced on Friday afternoon that these users received just a minor update for their Service Packed Vista. A representative at the company added that the update is only a small step in the development of the Service Pack in order for Microsoft to receive “additional feedback.”
On the TechNet Forums, where enthusiasts and beta testers of Microsoft’s products meet, the consensus is that the latest Service Pack update issued by the company is in fact the RC version. If this proves to be true, the Build 6002 should be a good picture of how the final release of the Service Pack 2 will look like. At the moment, some users reported problems when installing the latest version of the SP 2, but testers did not report any other big flaws of the update.
Service Pack 2 for Vista and Server 2008 has been made available in October 2008, as a beta version for developers. In December, Microsoft rolled out a public beta of the update suite, announcing that a Release Candidate version for Service Pack 2 will be available in early March 2009. A Malaysian tech blog, TechARP, reported that the Redmond giant might release the final version of Service Pack 2 in late April or early May this year.
