Next week, Microsoft will releases six updates for Windows
as part of this monthly security patch, also known as Tuesday patch. According
to the company’s Advanced notification for the July 2007 security bulletin on
July 10 Microsoft said three of the six updates are rated as “critical”.
In the company’s rating system “critical” means the patched vulnerabilities
may be exploited remotely, without user’s intervention.
The first patch rated as “critical” fixes a remote code
execution vulnerability in Microsoft Excel. The second will fix Windows 2000
Server and Windows Server 2003, and the third one will patch .Net Framework. This
last patch also requires restarting the system.
The other three updates, two rated as “important” will fix
holes in Publisher 2007 and Windows XP Professional SP2 that could lead to
compromised or stolen data. The last one, ranked “moderate”, is limited to
Windows Vista and has the potential to result in information disclosure.
Along with Tuesday’s update, Microsoft will also release an
updated version of the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool.
Last month, Microsoft released security updates for 15
vulnerabilities in Windows, Internet Explorer, Windows Vista and other bundled
products.
