The "biggest virtual game show stage," Xbox Live Primetime’s launch was delayed, but Microsoft used the Tokyo Game Show's world stage earlier this month to confirm that the New Xbox Experience would arrive November 19. The project, which was announced alongside the New Xbox Experience back at E3, was shelved to assure a smooth launch of the dashboard update coming November 19, according to Chris Morris at Forbes.
One of the big enhancements of the New Xbox Experience that Microsoft showed off at E3 back in July was Xbox Live Primetime, a service that would allow gamers to compete against one another in online game shows, and even win real prizes
The New Xbox Experience is to begin with a rollout of a large number of upgrades designed with the casual gamer firmly in mind, its latest features including a new avatars system, online game playing parties, and party channels and more.
"With the New Xbox Experience we will have the flexibility to roll out features and updates dynamically, unlike in the past where we were on a more biannual schedule. So, there are a lot more exciting features, including Primetime, that will be coming soon," Microsoft said.
Nevertheless competing with the networks in the spring is expected to be more difficult, with popular shows such as 24 and Lost on the air. But not to worry, Xbox Live Primetime isn't cancelled, according to Forbes. It just won't be ready in time for the November 19 launch of the revamped Xbox Dashboard. Instead, it'll go live in spring 2009, presumably as part of the usual springtime Dashboard update.
