The software giant from Redmond, Washington, will release several retail stores in order to display all the good stuff they have. Microsoft Corporation seems to be planning something as big as Apple did with its stores across the world and the stocking of its Genius Bar with tech experts.
Still, further details about the company’s plan couldn’t be reached until Friday, but the whole idea of opening these retail stores is for Microsoft to offer its buyers and clients an easier way to check out on their new products. Supposedly, the gadgets which will be put on the markets’ shelves will be the Xbox game console, the Zune digital media player and the Surface tabletop computer.
David Porter, recently named as Microsoft’s vice president of retail stores on Thursday, spent 25 years at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. before he had joined Dream Works Animation SKG in 2007. Porter was previously named as the head of Dream Works product distribution and Microsoft is eager to have him in front of their retail stores.
Porter said that he is really enthusiastic about helping Microsoft’s costumers in choosing the software and gadgets they need. Yet, his first goal is the one of establishing the time, date and the way to open the branded stores. Many would wonder whether the Microsoft stores would be better than Apple’s, considering the fact that Apple has already made a big success with this business.
Analyst Allan B. Krans with Technology Business Research stated that “Microsoft is putting the cart before the horse” and added that the stores aren’t the ones who attract the customers, but the original products are the ones which bring the customers inside the stores.
