Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009

Microsoft's Dynamics AX software has been updated to version 2009. Dynamics is one of Microsoft’s enterprise resource planning software products (ERP). It features many improvements and a design similar to that of Office 2007. Kees Hertogh, director of product management at Microsoft, said to IDG that the company is trying to blur the line between Office and ERP.

The new software is available in Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the U.K., and the U.S., according to the Redmond company. Microsoft highlighted that the product is complying with local regulations in each of the supported countries.

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 is designed to integrate seamlessly with other enterprise software products from the company, such as Windows Essential Business Server, SQL Server 2008, and Microsoft unified communications.

Microsoft's Dynamics AX can be traced back to a company called Damgaard in Denmark. The software was initially named Axapta. Damgaard merged with Navision Software A/S in 2000 and the combined company was ultimately acquired by Microsoft in 2002.

The ERP software includes its own IDE, MorphX, and a development language, X++. MorphX allows developers to graphically design datatypes, base enumerations, tables, queries, forms, menus and reports, through operations such as drag-and-drop.
