Microsoft Changes Its Cashback Program

Microsoft will make payback quicker for its Cashback program, after the service suffered an outage on Friday, failing to give some people discounts they were eligible for. Cashback is a Microsoft Live Search offering that gives money back to people who search for and buy products from retailers that participate in the program. This new Cashback feature will deliver rebates to eBay shoppers immediately, rather than after 60 days. This is available for people who buy products through the Cashback program and pay for them through PayPal. However, the feature is only available to certain eligible users, determined by eBay. The feature has been announced Monday on the Live Search blog, after the site crashed for several hours on Friday. Anyway, while this happened, Microsoft investigated a problem, rebuilding the databases that support Cashback.

Unfortunately for Cashback, another problem was reported by users who wanted to use a 40 percent discount offered on some HP products. They said they got much smaller discounts instead, and Microsoft asked them to contact their support page for the Live Search. Afterwards, they will provide an order number and the e-mail address they used during the purchase. Microsoft will offer these customers the full 40 percent refund. Anyway, the company's Cashback program is a really great way to save money this holiday season, but if consumers hear these stories, they simply won't be able to trust it and Microsoft will have a big problem trying to convince them to use Live Search in order to get this discount. Furthermore, the outage of the service has unfortunately appeared on Black Friday, when most people expected large discounts.
