Microsoft is working hard on making Windows 7 the dream-operating system, and this week has presented us with some of the changes that will be included in the Release Candidate after the Beta version went live.
First of all, the Windows Flip (ATL+TAB) with Aero Peek, which was implemented after receiving a lot of positive feedback from users on it. Another sweet thing is the implementation of a more efficient shortcut system (pressing Windows Logo and <#>, which corresponds to an item’s order in Quick Launch, will launch that item; however, if for example Internet Explorer is running multiple tabs or windows, pressing <#> while holding down Windows Logo will cycle through these items).
Microsoft has also changed the notification alert for when a window requires the user’s attention, in the sense that it will be more noticeable, will use a bolder orange color, and twice as many flashes than currently.
They’ve also worked on taskbar scaling, on anchoring taskbar thumbnails, on making newly installed programs automatically and temporarily surface on the Start Menu, on jump lists, and a lot of gadget options.
The RC also includes a design change to the UAC Control Panel, power plan options, custom theme improvements, improved Internet radio playback, improved playback support for video content from digital camcorders, but also improved headphone experience, increased audio reliability, and some new additions to Windows Explorer.
As it is evident from this sample of changes, we’ve been very busy improving Windows 7 based upon what our customers are telling us in many forums, Chaitanya Sareen wrote on the company’s blog.
