Sometimes blogging could mean trouble, especially when you
are writing about sensitive data. Jason
Langridge, a Microsoft employee of the the U.K. office of Microsoft's Windows
Mobile unit, has accidentally revealed an update of Office Mobile not available
for weeks.
He even provided on his blog a download link, but the update
was just an internal test version. The update addresses a flaw that left some
mobile users unable to open Office 2007 files. Few hours after the initial post,
the download link was promptly removed and
Langridge explained what happened in a new notice on his
blog.
“Yesterday I blogged about an Office Mobile upgrade and then
had to remove the posting. This was because in the final preparation our
Product team posted an internal site that was not intended for public
consumption and it was then immediately removed. A number of bloggers and
Windows Mobile sites picked up on the post our web team made.
I've had a number of questions relating to what happened to
the link and when the upgrade will be available. Microsoft will put out
upgrades for Office Mobile to support the new Office 2007 file formats in the
near future.
In the next few weeks you will see more information
pertaining to the availability of this upgrade.” he wrote.
Still there were some users who had downloaded the update. According to media reports thanks to the
update Office Mobile users will be able to view and edit Word documents created
in Office 2007 as well as view Excel workbooks and PowerPoint slides created in
Office 2007.
