Hollywood has turned, in the last few decades, to a new source for movie scripts – comic books. Superman and Batman were the first superheroes who were the core of some of the most successful motion picture franchises, television and cartoon series. More recently, Spiderman was also the main character of a movie series, and Sin City was a hit at the box office, acclaimed for its technical execution. X-Men was also a very successful series, with astounding special effects, and these are just a few examples.
One of the most recent comic book-to-silver screen adaptations was Iron Man, the story of rich industrialist Tony Stark, who designs and engineers a power suit and decides to use his creation to fight the forces of evil in the name of good. The Iron Man was played by Robert Downey Jr., his lovely assistant, Pepper Potts, is played by Gwyneth Paltrow, and the villain is masterfully portrayed by Jeff Bridges.
In the second installment of the movie, Iron Man 2, there has apparently been talk of hiring new “villains.” So far, the rumored names have been Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell, for the second part which is optimistically awaited before May 2010.
Although the script is being kept a secret, fans of the comic book know that the villain is Ivan, a heavy Russian sporting numerous tattoos. Ivan becomes Whiplash, a villain with technologically enhanced coils that are potentially lethal.
