Michelle and Matilda To Be Taken Care of by Ledger Family

The family of late actor Heath Ledger is assuring all that former fiancée Michelle Williams and 2-year-old daughter Matilda Rose will be provided for even if they are not mentioned in his will.

Australian actor Heath Ledger tragically died of an accidental prescription drug overdose less than two months ago, without having drawn up a will to include his extended family.

The New York Daily News released the details of Ledger’s will over the weekend. The actor had drafted a three-page will in 2003, in Australia, leaving everything he owned to his parents and three sisters.

Former fiancée Michelle Williams and 2-year-old daughter Matilda Rose were not mentioned in that will, as they had not yet entered his life.

At the time of his death, on Jan. 22, Ledger had not updated his will. He and Michelle Williams met on the set of “Brokeback Mountain,” the film which earned them both Academy Award nominations, and fell in love. Their daughter was born in late 2005.

His family however was quick to publicly state that their son’s little family “will be taken care of.”

“Matilda is our absolute priority and Michelle is an integral part of our family,” Heath's father Kim Ledger says in a statement. “They will be taken care of and that's how Heath would want it to be.”

The actor’s rep seconded Kim Ledger’s statement and emphasized that the outdated will does not mean Michelle and Matilda would not be provided for.

“The story is getting taken out of context and media is speculating that this means Matilda and Michelle will not be taken care of. I want to make it very clear nothing could be farther from the truth.”

Documents filed in Manhattan Surrogate’s Court revealed that the actor had less than $145,000 in New York assets at the time of his death, including a $25,000 Toyota Prius and $20,000 in furniture and fixtures. His greater wealth was in trust funds, Australian properties and the Brooklyn townhouse he once shared with Williams.

Ledger's lawyer has asked the judge to seal the file to protect the family's privacy, the Daily News reported.

Heath Ledger was only 28 when he died earlier this year.
