Donna Ricco, the designer who created the black and white
dress wore by Michelle Obama during her appearance at ABC’s “The View”, has
received over 2,000 order.
Michelle Obama was the guest host on “The View” on Wednesday
and during the show she mentioned that she bought the sleeveless dress for only
$148 from a New York
magazine, White House/Black Market.
After the show, the magazine was flooded with orders for the
same dress and Donna Ricco has become famous practically overnight.
During her interview on Friday with Today’s Meredith Vieira,
Donna Ricco said she was surprised when she saw Michelle Obama in her dress.
“I had no idea she would be wearing this dress. But it's
sort of a natural happening for me because I've been designing dresses a long
time. We ship a lot of dresses to the stores and I'm happy that Michelle chose
this dress to wear on "The View.",” Ricco said during the interview.
Speaking about Michelle Obama, Donna Ricco said that she
made a wise choice to wear dresses in the campaign.
“I think it gives her kind of an edge. Women want to feel
feminine; they want to look pretty. Wearing a dress, especially this one, is I
think a very powerful image and it can help her stand out from the crowd,”
Ricco explained.
The dress that goes under the name of “Tank Leaf Print
Dress” is now the main attraction at White House Black Market’s website with a “Road
the White House Style” headline.
