Thought the fashion agitation focusing on Michelle Obama was over? Think again!
The first lady in state is about to make the biggest fashion move yet. Michelle Obama will be the cover girl in the March issue of Vogue magazine.
All the first ladies since Lou Hoover in 1929 appeared in the magazine; all except Bess Truman. It’s not a surprise that Michelle Obama is in the magazine, but it’s a bit of a surprise that she’s the cover girl.
However, considering the fact that she is the first African-American first lady in state, this fashion statement from her isn’t such a big surprise.
Hillary Rodham Clinton was the only other first lady that got the Vogue cover. She appeared on the cover of the December 1998 issue of the magazine.
Michele Obama will appear in an eight-page article by Vogue's editor at large, Andre Leon Talley.
The photo chosen for the cover was taken by Annie Leibovitz at the Hay-Adams Hotel, where the Obamas spent some days before the historical inauguration of Barack Obama as America’s first black president. In that photo, Michelle is wearing a magenta silk dress by Jason Wu, the designer who also created her inauguration gown.
"I love clothes," the first lady says in the Vogue story.
Inside the magazine, she also appears in a black dress by designer Narciso Rodriguez.
The story reportedly focuses on Michelle Obama’s role as a mother and first lady.
