Michael Jackson's iconic 1983 hit music video "Thriller" may become a stage musical.
The legendary pop star is going tobe personally and fully involved in the creation of the show.
The theater producer James Nederlander officially announced on Monday that his organization has acquired all the rights to the video from Jackson and plans to put it on Broadway. Nederlander’s company owns nine Broadway theatres, therefore this dream should not be too hard to achieve, especially since Jacko himself will be an active part of every aspect of the creative process. The show might also have a pre-Broadway debut in Chicago, because the Nederlander Organization controls Broadway there.
In spite of the fact that "Thriller" has yet to acquire the rest of its creative team, the first rumors of the project pumped up last fall on New York gossip pages. It will probably take producers about a couple of years to finish it. There were not disclosed any details regarding the musical yet, but it is thought that the stage show will also include songs from Jackson's 1979 album “Off The Wall.”
The video for Thriller first appeared in 1983 and starred Michael Jackson as a werewolf and featured dancing zombies.
In spite of his controversial career and even more controversial life, the old King of Pop seems to have if not a devoted fan left, at least a guardian angel. Bahraini royal Sheikh Abdulla Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa has great plans of reviving Jackson’s career with productions which include new albums and a stage play. Well, at least that is what the man told London's High Court. The fact is that none of those projects has ever been finished.
