London - US popstar Michael Jackson Thursday announced that he would give a "final show of performances" at a series of concerts in London in July.
The former "King of Pop," appearing frail and unsteady, told some 2,000 fans the O2 concert venue in London: "This is it. This is the final curtain call. See you in July."
The announcement, billed as a news conference, had been described as the singer's comeback after his last tour 12 years ago.
A press release said the singer would perform 10 shows in London in July at the O2, the former Millennium Dome.
Media reports had earlier spoken of "up to 50" gigs that would earn the indebted superstar 100 million pounds (141 million dollars).
"This is it, I really mean it," Jackson told fans.
The 50-year-old pop star has lived the life of a near ascetic since his controversial acquittal of child abuse charges during a 2005 trial.
Michael Jackson’s last album that contained fresh material was “Invincible,” which was released in 2001, while the artist’s status as one of pop music’s most important acts has been progressively more outshone by odd conduct, an altered appearance, as well as doubts with regard to his alleged good health condition.
Since his "Thriller" album was released twenty-six years ago, becoming the best-selling record of all time, Jackson has been plagued with a series of problems and has been keeping a low profile in recent years.
Three years ago, he was cleared of child molestation accusations. Ever since he's been facing serious financial problems, which forced him out of his private "Neverland" theme park.
