Michael Jackson may be requested to travel to the High Court in London to testify in a case although the pop star’s doctor said that he may be too unfit to make the journey. Michael Jackson is accused of breach of contract by Sheikh Abdulla Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa, the second son of the King of Bahrain.
Sheikh Abdulla Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa filed suit against the pop star and is seeking toe be repaid the money he gave Mr. Jackson since 2005. The sum the Sheikh is seeking includes $2.2 million dollars to cover Mr. Jackson’s legal bills in a child-molestation trial in Los Angeles that year. The entire sum the Sheikh is seeking is of $7 million, Michael's attorney said Tuesday.
On the other hand, Mr. Jackson said that the money her received from the Sheikh were gifts and therefore he has no obligation to give the money back.
"It would be unwise for him to travel, given what's he's got now," lawyer Robert Englehart said.
Meanwhile, Al Khalifa's lawyer, Bankim Thanki, claimed that the evidence presented by Engelhart in court were "very unsatisfactory." Al-Khalifa said Jackson could be "bandaged up" and appear in person.
"It's not the first time a sick note has been presented by Mr. Jackson," Thanki said.
Mr. Jackson is reportedly seeking to testify through video link from the United States. The musician’s lawyer gave the judge, Mr. Justice Sweeney, a letter from Jackson's doctor. The letter was not read out in the open court. After reading it, the judge hinted that Mr Jackson "may or may not have a condition" not to come to London. There are some medical result the doctor still awaits ant then it will be clearer whether the pop star will be able to travel to the United Kingdom.
The pathology results for such a case should take about 48 hours, Thanki said citing the report of the medical expert that consulted the defense team. And even if the results were positive, the defense team said that Mr. Jackson could fly to London with "suitable dressings".
