Many Stephenie Meyer fans panicked when the best-seller
writer announced on her official website that her next project, “Midnight Sun,”
would be put on hold indefinitely, after an unfinished draft of the book leaked
on the Internet without her permission.
The writer said she has “a good idea of how the leak
happened as there were very few copies of “Midnight Sun” that left my possession and each was unique.” The
book was supposed to tell the “Twilight” story from the perspective of teenage
vampire Edward, but now the fans will remain inconsolable.
Although she says she knows who the author of the injustice
was, Meyer doesn’t give names and adds that she believes the individual she
gave this copy to had “no malicious intent with the initial distribution.”
However, she is very frustrated about what happened, calling
the action “a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a
human being.”
Meyer had initially posted only the first chapter, available
on her website, but she later decided the battle was over anyway since the
partial draft is available all over the Internet, so she posted the whole
material, warning that “the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes.”
This move, she thought, would at least stop more people from looking for the
illegal posting.
As expected, the fans did not take the bad news lightly.
Unimpressed with the author’s hurt feelings, they all request of her to get over
the incident and continue writing the book. From pain to anger, many fans
express their feelings sincerely on a number of websites, begging Meyer to
write or accusing her of lack of loyalty and unjust behavior, while some of
them think this is only a method through which the writer attempts to generate
a lot of buzz around the book and increase its popularity.
