Metallica’s new album, "Death Magnetic", hit the stores on Friday and has generated a lot of pro and con discussions among fans and critics. Some say that the heavy metal band will never be the same after their triumphal “…And Justice For All’, released in 1988, while others think that the magic is still there and that Metallica is bigger than ever.
Either way, the record is already on its way to becoming gold, platinum and even diamond, as it is expected to sell over 500,000 copies in only a few days. The band is known for its record sales, as the "Re-Load" album sold 435,000 units during its first week in 1997, while 1996's "Load" opened at 680,000 and the 1991 self-titled "black album" debuted with 598,000 and has since gone on to sell more than 15.2 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Fans are happier than ever to listen to Metallica’s ninth studio album, although their sound is not like it used to be, not as hard, not as rough maybe, but the band members have also matured and this is something that people should understand. They can’t remain the same for three decades just because we want them too. Some things have changed, but some things keep coming back, like "The Unforgiven III," a little something to remind us of the good old days, but to keep us looking in to the future. The dark, heavy, magnetic deadly future, of course. Yeah!
