Metallica scored a big success with its latest album “Death Magnetic” which, after debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, started its second week atop European Top 100 Albums.
The album sold well above 500,000 copies and made six No.1 debuts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Holland and Sweden. “Death Magnetic” sold 337,000 copies in the United States in its first week.
“Death Magnetic” made Metallica the only band to have 5 albums debut in the No.1 spot. The bands that landed four No. 1 album debuts are The Beatles, U2 and the Dave Matthews Band.
After just four days since it was released on the market, “Death Magnetic” had already been sold in 90,000 copies. But Metallica did not stop there. This week the album sold in another 340,000 copies, so the legendary heavy metal band is just a few hundred thousand away from another platinum selling album.
With their latest album, Metallica consolidated their status of living legends. It’s not easy to survive the powers of the music industry and its influence, but they did it and they did it Metallica style.
“Death Magnetic” beat Ne-Yo's album “Year of the Gentlemen” which debuted at No.2 selling about 250,000 copies. Nelly debuted on the No.3 spot with its “Brass Knuckles” (Universal Motown) which sold in 84,000 copies.
