Metallica and Others Nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Metallica and four others will be inducted next April in the already compromised Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the popular and dubious organization and museum which inducts as of late anybody but rock and roll artists. Madonna along with John Mellencamp, The Ventures, Leonard Cohen and The Dave Clark Five, were the chosen ones for 2008’s annual induction ceremony in March.

The induction decision is made allegedly by a panel of nearly 600 industry insiders who selects the five acts to be inducted at the 24th Annual Induction Ceremony on April 4 at historic Public Hall in Cleveland, out of the nine artists nominated now: Jeff Beck, Chic, Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Metallica, Run-D.M.C., the Stooges, War and Bobby Womack.

In order to be considered for induction, an artist must have issued a first single or album at least 25 years before nomination. In order to be considered for next year’s induction, an artist must have issued their first single or LP no later than 1983.

The Sex Pistols caused quite a stir back in 2006 when they were inducted. They actually refused to attend the ceremony, calling the museum a "piss stain." Well, not exactly my language, but I can't argue with the underlying message. The Sex Pistols said "We're not your monkeys" in the handwritten letter they sent to organizers.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum will open a 25,000 square foot annex location in the heart of Soho, Manhattan, at 76 Mercer Street this November. The annex will house among other things Bruce Sprinsteen’s 1957 Chevy, the singer’s first car, John Lennon's piano, Elvis Presley's motorcycle jacket and a handwritten poem by Jim Morrison of The Doors will await the visitors. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is also planning to open annexes in Vegas and the Middle East.
