Mercedes Launches 2010 E-Class and Electric Cars

On Saturday, at the North American International Auto Show, Mercedes unveiled a fresh version of its luxury limousine. The car manufacturer announced that the new car would be available in the United States starting this year’s summer.

As the new eco-friendly technology trend has been increasingly popular in the last few years, Mercedes-Benz has also displayed Concept BlueZero, which is represented by three automobiles that run exclusively on electricity. Mercedes claims that the new electric drive system provides a range of 375 miles with every charge.

Concept BlueZero cars feature Lithium-Ion batteries, which offer 60 miles of travel with every hour of charge. Currently, Li-Ion battery packs are the most popular among portable electronic devices, such as mobile phones and laptops.

The BlueZero F-Cell is powered by a lithium-ion battery that provides up to 250 miles. The vehicle’s driving system is fully electric, as this technology offers an improved power management. A limited number of F-Cell models will be available for the mass-market starting the second half of 2009, according to a Daimler AG statement.

BlueZero E-Cell model is a more basic car, as its battery pack will run out of power after 125 miles. Still, Mercedes-Benz is planning to sell this model, too, even though there will be few units for sell.

An improved E-Cell model is the Plus version, which proves to have the highest range, as the vehicle can go for 375 miles before it is charged again. As with the other models, Mercedes-Benz uses an electric drive system and a Li-Ion battery.

However, Mercedes has also highlighted its new generation of the E-Class model. The 2010 E-Class has much improved security features, with automatic braking and parking systems. Mercedes has opted for a more angular design this time, and it will still sell the high-output V6 and V8 versions of the model.
