Melissa Lawson, a Texas
mother of five, won NBC’s “Nashville Star” competition. According to Monsters
and Critics.com, Monday, Melissa Lawson was the sixth-season winner of the
country music talent competition. Texan Gabe Garcia came on second place and
Shawn Mayer from Iowa
won the third place.
The 32-year-old singer was filled with joy when she heard
that she had won the competition, shouting “Oh, my God!” Afterwards she began
singing her new song produced by John Rich “What If It All Goes Right,” which
is scheduled to appear on country radio Tuesday morning.
Melissa Lawson, the oldest contestant in this season in
“Nashville Star,” won a record contract with Warner Bros. Records, a Toyota
Tundra and she will sing live from the Summer Olympics in Beijing on August 12, being broadcasted on
NBC’s “Today.”
At the beginning of the show, all 12 contestants returned to
the Acuff Theater, joining host Billy Ray Cyrus in a performance of his hit
single “Achy Breaky Heart.” Also, George Jones made an appearance on the
show.
The 4 finalists Melissa Lawson, Gabe Garcia, Shawn Mayer and
Coffey will go on a nationwide tour this year. The series managed to open the
road to fame for Miranda Lambert, Buddy Jewel and Chris Young. This year, the
show came on NBC, before it had spent five seasons on cable's USA Network.
During the show, Melissa Lawson lost some weight. She
initially weighed under 300 pounds and she realized that she needed to get
healthy. She undertook a diet and began exercising, losing 45 pounds since the
first “Nashville Star” audition.
