Academy Award-winning singer Melissa Etheridge plans to tie the knot with her two-year girlfriend Tammy Lynn Michaels. The singer revealed her matrimonial plans during celebrity television show "Extra."
When asked if she wanted to marry her girlfriend, Etheridge said that she plans to do it the only thing which needs to be established is the right time to do it.
"Yes, we have four children and we're trying to find the right time," the two-time Grammy Award-winning musician said in an interview on Wednesday night.
Etheridge made the announcement abut one month before California residents cast their votes on whether to amend the law that gives same-sex couples the right to marry. The gay- marriage law was passed by the California Supreme Court in May 2008, but many Californians were against it and have organized a proposition to amend it.
According Etheridge’s publicist, the couple already exchange vows at a ceremony in Malibu last Saturday, The Associated Press reported.
"We are so grateful for the blessings from our friends and family as we commence our vows, and begin the rest of our lives together," the gay couple said in a statement.
As for the gay couple which is the point of focus of this article, Etheridge has been one of the most high-profile celebrities to admit that she was gay. The 47-year-old musician became famous through hits such as "Come to My Window" and "I'm the Only One." She has two children with Julie Cypher and two other children (twins) with Michaels, a 33-year-old actress known for her role in cable TV show "The L Word."
The gay couple had the children through artificial insemination using sperm from rocker David Crosby.
