The Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden made public his medical records on Monday. Aside from treating two brain aneurysms back in 1988, the 65-year-old seems to be just fine.
As for the brain aneurysms, Mr. Biden has had no subsequent aneurysms and since he has undergone screening, said Dr. Matthew Parker, who was in charge of releasing the news on behalf of the Democratic presidential campaign.
"Everything that was supposed to be done is being done,” said Parker about Mr. Biden’s treatment and brain screening.
Although this kind of issue should have been presented by Biden's physician, Dr. John Eisold, the official attending physician for Congress, Parker did it instead because Eisold doesn’t discuss his patients publicly.
As for Mr. Biden, the VP candidate has a healthy blood pressure (120 over 78) and his heart arteries are ok. Apart from the treated aneurysms, Mr. Biden has minor health problems. The list includes an enlarged prostate, no prostate cancer though, minor problems with the cholesterol level and chronic sinusitis. Mr. Biden went through sinus surgery and is using medication for relief.
Joe Biden also had a bit of problems with an irregular heartbeat called arterial fibrillation, but this happened in 2006. After screening in July and November, the Delaware senator found out that he had no cardiovascular disease.
As for the aneurysms, they won’t pose any threat to Mr. Biden’s current health, said neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Gupta according to CNN. A brain aneurysm is a localized, blood-filled dilation of a blood vessel caused by disease or weakening of the vessel wall.
Back in 1988, a few months after Mr. Joe Biden gave up his presidential campaign, the senator experience headaches for weeks. On one time, he went through a headache so severe that he lay down in a fetal position and passed out for several hours.
