The filmmaker who witnessed Christian Bale’s notorious tirade on the set of “Terminator Salvation” defended the actor’s flare-up this weekend, explaining that the 35-year-old star usually stays out of the spotlight, as he is “not the Beckhams.”
McG told admirers at a Warner Bros. preview panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday that such an incident could happen to anyone, because a “film set is a passionate place.” In addition, the director said that he wanted a certain amount of fervor to appear in the spirit of the main character, in spite of the fact that “Terminator Salvation” is a war movie.
The recorded rant, in which Christian Bale delivers an expletive-packed verbal attack to the movie’s director of photography for interrupting a scene allegedly took place on the film set last July. However, it entered the spotlight only when it was leaked to the media.
On Friday morning, the actor known for his impersonations of Batman surprised everyone by calling into The Kevin & Bean Show on KROQ-FM radio station in Los Angeles with an apologetically inspired speech.
“I was out of order beyond belief,” the actor told the DJ hosts of the show. In addition, he said that he acted “like a punk” and that the publication of the tape had a very strong impact on him. “It is inexcusable,” Christian Bale said with regard to his outburst.
The “Dark Knight” star decided to go on air after listening to the hosts rerun fragments of the tape in which Bale shouts at Shane Hurlbut. The actor even admitted that the two DJs had put a smile on his face “in the midst of all this craziness.”
