Los Angeles - Paul McCartney sold out his April 19 concert at a Las Vegas casino in less than seven seconds, according to figures released Tuesday.

The promoters of the concert at the Hard Rock Hotel said the sellout of the 4,000 seats may have set a world record with tickets going at the rate of 600 per second when they went on sale on February 14.

The Hard Rock Hotel booked the former Beatle, 66, for the gig to debut its new 60-million-dollar music venue, called the Joint.

"The reason Paul McCartney took this gig is that he wanted a down and dirty, real old-fashioned rock show with minimal seating," Paul Davis, vice president of entertainment at the Hard Rock, told the Las Vegas Sun.

"He wants to come out and look at the crowd and feel the entire crowd staring at him - a real rock show with a real rock 'n' roll feel to it."
