“Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather
Jr. opted for a lucrative investment of his skill in the time before the
September rematch against Oscar De La Hoya, and decided to appear on
Wrestlemania 24 on March 30, for a “mere” salary.
The event is set to take place at
Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida, and according to the World Wrestling Entertaiment
Chairman Vince McMahon, Mayweather will win $20 million for his appearance at
the annual event.
“I had approached (WWE) about a
year ago, but it didn’t fit into our schedule,” Leonard Ellerbee, Mayweather’s
advisor, said in a press conference at Staples Center, confirming the boxer’s
paycheck.
“It’s entertainment. You have a
chance to just be you and do what you want to do,” Mayweather also explained at
the press conference on Monday, the Associated Press reports. “I run Vegas and
I run L.A. and I will run the WWE,” he added.
Mayweather has been in the
spotlight and in the entertainment field like no other boxer, gaining both the
attention of sports fans and, believe it or not, women of all ages, since his
appearance on “Dancing with the Stars.”
It’s a combination of image and
rough sport for Mayweather, who says all these “extra-curricular” activities
will not interfere with his career as a boxer.
WWE star Rey Mysterio will
prepare him for the round against Big Show: “I weight three times as much as he
does,” Big Show bragged. It’s not fair, but I’m a businessman and I see an
opportunity for business.”
It seems a bit unfair if we look
at the encounter from the weight point of view, as Mayweather, at his 5-foot-8,
150 pounds, stands against 7-feet, 430 pounds, but often big things come in small
packages, and Mayweather could give Big Show a big surprise.
