Matthew McConaughey gave those interested a delivery room play-by-play showing that he served as birthing coach and DJ as his girlfriend Camila Alves gave birth to their son Levi.
The 38-year-old actor gave numerous details about the labor and delivery in the first post-baby interview to OK! magazine. McConaughey’s account began with his girlfriend’s water breaking the morning of July 5.
McConaughey told the magazine that they called the doctor, who told them to come at the hospital to see him. Then he made a pot of coffee, his girlfriend took a shower, “her water broke some more…we giggled and laughed.” When the couple arrived at the hospital Camila’s contractions began.
“Contractions started kicking in, and we found a great rhythm,” McConaughey told OK!
McConaughey said that they had a 14-hour session and he sat there with his girlfriend, “right between her legs,”
“We got tribal on it. We danced to it. I was DJing this native Brazilian music.”
The actor said he had to have his son with him right after the birth. He held his son Levi for about 15 minutes due to the fact that the medical personnel had to take care of his 25-year-old girlfriend. They chose to have an epidural because on the large contractions, the umbilical cord was being compressed.
The two lovebirds did not know the sex of the baby until the birth. Levi was born July 7 in California, weighing in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces.
“I said, ‘Come here, little man.’ I saw the pecker and screamed that we’d been right all along about him being a boy. Then I brought him over to her.”
