Massive Entertainment, one of the victims of the Activision
Blizzard merger, found a new home with Ubisoft, the French developer announced
on Monday. The deal includes the assets and all the personnel of the Malmö,
Sweden – based studio, and most importantly, popular real time strategy title
World in Conflict.
No specific details were given on the financial terms of the
deal; however Ubisoft said they were delighted to welcome the Massive team to
the Ubisoft family. “Ubisoft is growing at an intense pace and our strategy is
to ensure the strength of our global creative terms,” said Christine
Burgess-Quemard, executive director of worldwide production studios at Ubisoft.
Massive Entertainment was ranked among the top 50 best game
studios in the world, according to Game Developers Research Inc. In addition to
that, World in Conflict received the Best Strategy Game of E3 2007 award, and
was named Best Online Multiplayer Game of 2007 by IGN and Most Innovative Game
of 2007 by Gamespot.
Burgess-Quemard also said that Massive Entertainment comes with a group of
confirmed and recognized creators that will integrate well in Ubisoft’s
production studios.
“We are fortunate to have found in Ubisoft a publisher who
shares the same values and understands our mindset,” said Martin Walfisz,
president and founder of Massive Entertainment, adding that he has no doubt that
the future of the two companies will offer “significant mutual benefit and
synergy.”
