Warner Bros. is planning to bring zany Looney Tunes
character Marvin the Martian to the big screen, in a Christmas story that is
sure to charm audiences young and old.
One of our favorite extraterrestrials, the green bellicose
Marvin the Martian created by Chuck Jones in 1948, is preparing for another
wild adventure, this time in a feature film at Alcon Entertainment, announced
by WB. The film will be a mix of live action and CGI, reports trade paper Variety.
Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will be producing along
with Steve Crystal.
The project was reportedly developed by Steve Crystal, a
former Warner exec who envisioned the film as a Christmas story, with the green
little alien determined to come to Earth to destroy Christmas.
The only thing stopping him: he is trapped in a gift box.
This was Marvin’s main theme from the very beginning: always
wishing to destroy Earth through some powerful, devastating explosion, only to
be prevented almost every time by the aloof, carrot-munching Bugs Bunny.
The studio is still looking for a director and writer. The film
will be promoted as a family feature similar to “Racing Stripes” or “My Dog
Skip,” per Variety.
Although a Martian, Marvin has a pet dog named K-9. He wears
a bright red Roman soldier’s uniform complete with helmet adorned with a push
broom on his round black head which is similar to a bowling ball and white old-fashioned
basketball shoes.
He frequently exclaims, “Where is the kaboom? There was
supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!” and often declares he is “so angry,
very angry indeed.”
