Marvel Comics has just announced
today the launch of Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited, an online
service that will allow the people to meet their favorite Marvel Universe
character on the Internet. What could have been more appropriate than a
web site for helping the fans meet once again (and again, and again…) their
childhood heroes?
Anyway, the price of the new
service will be of only $4.99 per month,
but the users will have also the possibility to first check out 250 samples for free
before deciding to subscribe or not. The new service is PC and Mac compatible
and it requires a web browser with
Adobe Flash Player 6.0 or higher installed on their computers.
However, Marvel Digital Comics
Unlimited is different if compared to a music-based service that allows the
users to download content and leave the web site. Marvel Digital Comics
Unlimited is all online. The users will be able to search the web site by writer,
illustrator, character, book title, mini-series or date of publication. The
users have the possibility to build their own
personal reading list that could be then shared with the members.
According to Marvel Comics, each
digital comic has been re-mastered for the online distribution and the content
has been re-digitized and re-colored.
Thanks to Marvel Digital Comics
Unlimited the users will be able to meet again the classic heroes from The Amazing
Spider-Man, The X-Men, Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, as well as from other
about 2,500 comic books. Marvel Comics, however, plans to add 20 titles weekly
to its “marvel” database.
So, the comic books won’t die! The
Internet has saved them!
