Even if “Marley and Me” doesn’t speak about Christmas or any traditions connected to this holiday and even if the plot of it takes place in a sunny location, full of beaches and short clothes, the movie won the hearts of the people, who came and watch it during the Christmas holiday and thus, made it No. 1.
“Marley and Me” set the record for the biggest audience and the most money made for a Christmas Day premiere. The movie earned $14.7 in its first release day from tickets sales, to which other $37 million were added during this weekend.
The movie, directed by David Frankel and having a screenplay written by Scott Frank and Don Roos, is based on The New York Times bestselling autobiographical book written by journalist John Grogan and published in 2005. “Marley” tells the story of a young love romance between John and Jenny, who adopt Marley, a yellow Labrador Golden Retriever, as to get accustomed to the parenting style.
Yet, the dog seems to be a little to active and rambunctious, but nevertheless he finally becomes an important part of the family. It’s funny, it’s attractive, it’s about everyday’s habits and about family so it’s worth to see!
According to tracking firm Media by Numbers, the Christmas Day sales reached $75 million, up $10 million from last year. The tracking firm also added that Hollywood heads toward a down year because the sales up to date are off about 1% at $9.5 billion. Also the number of tickets sold has descended 5.2%.
Yet, No. 2 this weekend was reached by the mysterious tales from “Bedtime Stories,” a movie which earned $28.1 million in the weekend and $10.5 million on its Christmas Day release. “Bedtime Stories” is about a man whose stories turn into reality.
Brad Pitt’s aging in reverse from “The Curios Case of Benjamin Button” reached No. 3 with $27 million earned during the weekend. Yet, the tickets sales from its Christmas Day release reached to $12 million.
