Rap mogul Marion
“Suge” Knight was arrested on Wednesday on assault and drug charges after he
was indicted of beating his girlfriend while menacingly waving a knife near the
Las Vegas Strip, police said.
The 43-year-old co-founder and CEO of bankrupt Death Row
Records posted $19,000 bail and was set to be released late on Wednesday,
agreeing to show up on September 26 in Las Vegas Justice Court, a court
spokeswoman said, according to The Associated Press.
Officials said Marion
“Suge” Knight was taken into custody at approximately 6:40 a.m. after police
arrived at the scene of a minor traffic crash to find the hip hop mogul hitting
a woman in a parking lot.
“A citizen sees the beating in a parking lot, police get
there fast, they see him beating her. It’s a good solid case,” said Las Vegas
police Lt. Chris Carroll, quoted by the AP.
The woman was transported to a hospital and was treated for
her injuries that Carroll said were not serious. Although police did not
disclose the woman’s identity or her age, they said she claimed she was “Suge”
Knight’s girlfriend of three years.
Carroll said that Knight was on top of the woman when police
arrived and that he was violently beating her, holding a knife in his hand.
The rap mogul was booked into the Clark County
jail on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of an
illegal substance, as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of drugs
without a prescription and domestic violence.
Officer Jacinto Rivera, a police spokesman, said that Knight
and the woman went out of a Las Vegas
strip club not long before the seizure.
“Suge” Knight has a history of legal problems. This month,
he was formally accused of sending death threats to an inmate, Waymond “Suave” Anderson, to modify his
testimony regarding the 1997 death of The Notorious B.I.G.
