Mario Lopez will be the new host of the Hollywood
gossip show “Extra,” replacing the current co-hosts Dayna Devon and Mark
McGrath. According to Variety, Mario Lopez will begin his new job in September
when the syndicated show starts his 15th season.
Dayna Devon will remain on the show as a special
correspondent and backup host, while Mark McGrath returns to his music career,
as Sugar Ray is recording a new album. “Extra” begins its 15 season in the fall
and it will air in about 95% of the country. The top stations are the NBC
O&O's in Los Angeles, Chicago
and New York.
“Extra” is a production of Time Telepictures Prods and its executive producer
is Theresa Coffino.
“He will be a fresh and dynamic presence, and we can't wait
for him to assume his new role,” said senior exec producer Lisa
Gregorish-Dempsey, according to Variety.
In June, Mario Lopez was chosen the hottest bachelor, as
People Magazine reported. Lopez replaced previous hot bachelor Matthew
McConaughey, who is no bachelor anymore. Lopez has recently become a bachelor,
after splitting with his ex-girlfriend Karina Smirnoff, apparently because “the
relationship wasn’t heading in the right direction,” as Smirnoff’s spokesperson
told People.
The Latin lover is so self-confident that he decided to show
some of his weaknesses to People, telling the magazine he used to be so fat that
he looked like a sumo wrestler.
Mario Lopez rose to fame after his portrayed A.C. Slater in
the teen series “Saved by the Bell.”
After the series finished, Lopez appeared in several television shows and
hosted some primetime television pageants. He says he is still friends with
“Saved by the Bell”
co-star Mark-Paul Gosselaar, the actor who portrayed Zack Morris in the series.
