Wednesday, The Marine Corps announced that disciplinary action was taken
in the case of the two Marines who appeared in the puppy video. The video
posted on YouTube showed the two men joking before one of them threw a puppy
over a cliff.
According to The Associated Press, the Marine Public Affairs
Office at Marine Corps Base Hawaii informed that Lance Corporal David
Motari, who was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Kaneohe
Bay, received Non-Judicial Punishment and was also “being processed for
separation” from the Marine Corps.
The awful video shows how two Marines, who were on patrol in
Iraq,
were joking and one of them threw a black and white puppy off a rocky cliff. The
sound that came from the puppy, while it was falling, was heart breaking. In the
background a voice was heard saying: “That's mean. That's mean, Motari.” But,
afterwards, the same man who said that was heard giggling.
So much for compassion and protection.
The 17-second video was posted on YouTube, but it was later
removed “due to terms of use violation,” reported CNN.
Marine Corps Base Hawaii also said that the action from the
video was not in conformity with the “high standards” they required from their Marines
and it “will not be tolerated.”
No other details regarding the punishment of the two Marines
were released.
