Marie Osmond’s Return on ‘Dancing with the Stars’

It’s only been a week since her father passed away, but Marie Osmond was back on the dance floor for Monday’s show.

Just before starting her number with partner Jonathan Roberts, Osmond told the audience that her dad saw her tribute to him last week.

"He watched it [the people around him] said he was so happy. He got up the next morning, took a shower, laid down and they said that he passed away," she said.

Explaining why she got back so soon, Osmond said during Monday’s live broadcast that she found comfort in the Bible as she randomly flipped some pages.

"It said ... there's a time to mourn and a time to dance," she said. "And I felt like it was almost from my dad saying, `This is your time to dance.'"

"On so many levels, it's been a tough week," Osmond was quoted by Seattlepi.com as saying. "You would probably gasp if you knew. Not only with my dad, but with personal things going on. I'm very tired and I'm grateful that this week is done."

She was forced to skip last week’s elimination show after her father, George Osmond, patriarch to the Osmond family's singing group, The Osmond Brothers, died at his home in Provo, Utah. He was 90.

Although she scored the lowest results, 49 out of 60 possible points from the judges, the 48-year-old refused to be a quitter.

"The first dance was really tough after I saw that package. But my dad would've wanted me to dance and I gave it the best shot I could."

She and Jonathan Roberts started out the night with a very tame rhumba, which earned them a score of 24, and ended with an only slightly less tame jive which scored a 25.

"I was feeling kind of bad," she said. "Like, 'What do they want?' I'm kicking my legs up around Jonathan and dropping my hands to the floor. And I felt bad for Jonathan, because he worked his butt off."

On top of the list, strengthening their chances for moving into the next round was Helio Castroneves and partner Julianne Hough, who won last season’s "Dancing" trophy with speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno.

With the next shortest odds to win, Melanie Brown (Mel B) and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy offered up another brilliant performance, although they failed to receive a perfect score for a third consecutive week.
