Singer Marie Osmond appears to be fine after she collapsed during Monday’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars”, leaving all befuddled.
ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” reality series has some of the highest ratings in the U. S., with viewers tuning in to see the variety of celebrities coming to compete in a multitude of dances.
Monday night brought another kind of variety, as celebrity dancing competitor Marie Osmond showed the judges and viewers one unexpected move: how to collapse to the floor after a performance. Osmond, 48, and professional dancing partner Jonathan Roberts had just finished performing the samba and were listening to the judges’ critique when she suddenly fainted.
While host Tom Bergeron was inspired enough to try and say something funny, along the lines of “In movies, swooning is so romantic, in real life, it scares the crap out of me,” he was just as shocked as anyone else.
Commercials quickly replaced the image of a collapsed Marie Osmond. Meanwhile, backstage, she received medical care and eventually came to her senses. Later during the show, she explained, “Once in a while that happens to me, when I get winded and I stop breathing.”
Osmond will be kept under medical observation just for a while longer to make sure that she is in a good condition, according to media reports.
Her spokesperson confirmed to Reuters Tuesday that she was feeling better. “She's doing much better and feeling fine and she's looking forward to appearing on tonight's (Tuesday's) show,” Marleah Leslie said.
A star did fall Monday and quite literally, but this time not from the sky. Monday night was not exactly Osmond’s lucky night, given the oh-so-public faint. Her efforts on the dance floor did not go unappreciated however, with judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba each awarding Osmond and her partner seven points out of 10.
As co-host Samantha Harris commented, the voting wasn’t influenced at all by the fainting.
Among the dancing celebrities on this fifth season of the series are boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., actresses Jane Seymour and Jennie Garth, Spice Girls singer Melanie Brown and Indy Car Series driver Helio Castroneves.
