Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon spontaneously married last week
in the Bahamas
and are now presumably enjoying their subsequent impromptu honeymoon, hence the
R&B diva’s absence from “The View” on Monday.
Mariah Carey was scheduled to appear on “The View” on Monday,
reports Access Hollywood, but canceled. One can only suppose so she could enjoy
her honeymoon.
Carey, 38, and Cannon, 27, married during a quiet, discrete wedding
ceremony last Wednesday, in Eleuthera, the Bahamas.
Bishop Clifford Petty of the National Church of God in the Caribbean confirmed to People that he had presided over
their wedding, the magazine reported on its website Friday, May 2.
Petty’s church is based in Eleuthera, in the town of Governor’s Harbour, but
he didn’t say whether the wedding took place there or elsewhere. He would give
no further details, other than to specify he did not give a sermon.
Details are generally scarce regarding the astonishing
wedding. People magazine also reported that Carey and Cannon obtained a
marriage license in Eleuthera and that her $2.5 million, 17-carat diamond ring
from Jacob & Co. jewelers is one of a kind, which the young actor/ rapper
helped design.
According to media reports, the two became a couple during
the filming of Carey’s new video for “Bye, Bye,” off her new album “E=MC2,”
where Cannon portrays her boyfriend.
This is the second marriage for Carey, who divorced music
exec Tommy Mottola a decade ago, after a 5-year marriage. It is the first for Cannon,
who was previously engaged to Victoria’s
Secret model Selita Ebanks.
Rumors regarding a relationship between the two first
appeared when Carey arrived at the Tribeca Film Festival to promote her new
movie, “Tennessee,”
wearing a huge diamond ring on her left finger. (The ring was also believed to
be the same as the engagement ring sported by Ebanks a while ago, a rumor which
was quickly killed off.)
