Speculation surrounding the lesbian affair between Maureen McCormick, who played Marcia Brady on the 1970s sitcom "The Brady Bunch," and her on-screen sister Eve Plumb, was rejected by the publisher of McCormick’s tell-all autobiography.
Despite the mass of reports about the shocking steamy on-set sexual relationship which was reportedly going to be detailed in McCormick’s book "Here's the Story," the book's publisher said, though there are plenty of other revelations in the book, a lesbian affair is not one of them.
"We are verifying that it is not true," Debbie Styer, senior vice president of group publicity at William Morrow, the book's publisher, was quoted by ABC News as saying. "The real story of what happened in [McCormick's] life and behind the scenes of the show will all come out when the book comes out."
According to the story reported by the National Enquirer, "the most explosive comments will be how the then blonde, blue-eyed cutie developed a crush on Eve Plumb, which led to some sexual play.''
"This book will certainly come as a shocker. While Maureen is not a lesbian, she reveals there were some sexual high jinks going on behind the scenes,'' a source was quoted by the newspaper as saying, "It's bizarre because she played such a virginal character on the show."
Aside from the alleged sexual encounters with Plumb, McCormick also takes "a candid and deeply personal look at her meteoric rise as a child star in the hit 70s television show, The Brady Bunch," describing "dangerous" situations she faced while being "exploited."
"I've learned that overcoming my demons and weathering the tumultuous storms of my life is a process,'' McCormick said about battling depression, drug addiction and eating disorders.
"Though I may never completely win this battle," the 51-year-old actress wrote, "I will never lose. … I have arrived, for the moment at least, in a solid and secure place, which is allowing me to visit my past without fear. Writing this book has been such a cathartic experience. I hope it will not only shed light on who I am and how I got here, but more importantly, remind the readers that there truly is a light at the end of any tunnel."
In a similar book released fifteen years ago, co-star Barry Williams, who played Greg Brady, revealed in his book entitled "Growing Up Brady" his own affairs behind the scenes with both his on-screen mom, Florence Henderson, and McCormick, whom he reportedly dated for two years.
