Singers Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez walked down the red carpet at Union Station on Sunday to perform at Barack Obama’s inauguration pre-celebration.
After posing for the media without showing any signs that their marriage was at a standstill like the tabloids have been speculating for a while, Anthony and Lopez performed at the end of the event, with Jen having introduced her husband to the crowd.
As expected, the show was not all about the music and the entertainment, which came to be mixed with politics really soon, since celebrities voiced their hopes for improvement and change for the better, hailing the new administration and the new president.
Tony Plana, who portrays Betty’s father in the television series "Ugly Betty," stated he was thrilled about Barack Obama’s victory, adding that he believed that the latter’s administration could enhance the quality of life for all minorities.
Nevertheless, Plana also said that Hispanics should have been offered more spots on the inaugural festivities list, expressing his disappointment at the fact that Latinos had had to organize their own event, instead of the administration.
The celebration was organized by the National Council of La Raza, along with other Hispanic organizations.
The one who opened the show was „American Idol” runner up David Archuleta with „The Star-Spangled Banner,” while the event also featured Mexican singer Lila Downs, comedian George Lopez, actress Rosie Perez and soap opera actress Angelica Vale, among others.
Members of the Congress were also present and shared the VIP room with the celebrities.
