The police in Aspen, Colorado, announced that the man who had been searched for the suspicious packages sent to two banks was found dead on Thursday. James Blanning, 71, was identified by the authorities through bank surveillance video , but the cause of his death is still under investigation.
Supposedly, Blanning was living in Denver, Colorado and public records show that the man had turned 72 years old in November. In addition, the CNN has left some telephone messages at the address, but nobody answered them.
A police report issued on Wednesday stated that a branch of Wells Fargo bank and a branch of Vectra bank had received some suspicious packages on Wednesday afternoon. The packages were also carrying a note, but both of them represented a great threat to the community.
On New Year’s Eve, a section of downtown Aspen was evacuated, even if the whole scandal took place during one of the busiest times of the year. The bomb squads used high-pressure water to safely destroy the packages. Nearly 190 authorities, including the FBI and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives gathered to stop the dangerous threat.
The police started searching for the owner of a black sled, which had been found in downtown Aspen. According to the news release, the black sled contained plastic boxes which had holiday-wrapped packages and pizza boxes on the bottom of it. No further data was released or found until Thursday morning.
Residents in Aspen were allowed to return home at 4 a.m. on Thursday, but according to a report in the Rocky Mountain News, very important business got lost on Wednesday.
