Early on Tuesday, Sacramento police took into custody a man wanted for purportedly opening fire at two CHP officers.
According to the statement of CHP Officer Michael Bradley, Sacramento Police officers located Carroll Wayne Cavanaugh at about 11:15 a.m. in close proximity to Meadowview and Belinda Way, Sacramento, CA.
As said by Chris Carr of the California Highway Patrol, police attempted to pull over a Cadillac Seville along Stockton Boulevard at about 4 a.m., but the person who was in the driving seat increased the speed. The two CHP officers were chasing the car when it hit a traffic sign and crashed into the fence of a home in the area of 68th Avenue and Florinda Way.
Afterward, the suspect got out of the luxury automobile and sprinted through the back yard of the house. As police chased him, they heard two gunshots, Bradley asserted.
When Cavanaugh discharged the firearm, neither police officer was hit. "Nobody was hurt," the CHP said. "After the crash when (the vehicle’s driver) fled on foot, he fired at least two shots, and possibly some more at the officers."
Contrary to previous reports of the accident saying that the ivory-colored Cadillac contained three other passengers, the driver was alone, according to the CHP.
The authorities identified Cavanaugh as the suspect due to the fact that he is the registered owner of the vehicle, he was driving it, and his driver's license was discovered in the back yard of the home where the collision happened, CHP informed.
The shooter who targeted at the officers is on parole and was detained for weapon-related crime.
