With 130,000 copies sold during the last week, the
soundtrack of “Mamma Mia!” has reached the first place in the U.S. albums chart, Billboard.com
reported. The soundtrack was released five weeks ago.
This is the second soundtrack that reaches the first spot on
Billboard 200, after the "Juno" soundtrack in January.
“Mamma Mia!” is the film adaptation of the Broadway musical
based on Abba’s best-known hits. Meryl Streep leads an all-star cast in the
feature-film adaptation of the beloved musical that has been seen by more than
30 million people in 160 cities and 8 languages around the world. The movie
soundtrack was released by the Decca Records.
Miley Cyrus' “Breakout” was No. 2 for a second week with
102,000 copies. The teenager’s album was released on July 27th and debuted at
No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with 326,000 copies sold.
“Breakout” sold 371,000 copies in its first week of
availability, becoming the second best-selling album by a female artist,
reports Billboard, closely behind Mariah Carey’s “E=MC2,” which sold 463,000
during its first week of release in April.
After knocking out Miley Cyrus’ “Breakout” from the first
place last week, Sugarland's “Love on the Inside,” fell to No. 3 with 91,000
copies sold.
Meanwhile, Kid Rock's "Rock N Roll Jesus" remains
on the fourth place for a third week, with 90,000 copies sold.
The Top 5 was rounded up by Lil Wayne's “Tha Carter III”,
which also maintained its last week’s position.
