Friday,
November 21, iconic pop-singer Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie will be legally
ending their marriage at the High Court, after the case is heard by a
judge in the High Court's Family Division.
The action was filed this Thursday under the names Ciccone M
L v Ritchie G S, while the couple revealed last month that they would be
getting a divorce, having both decided to go their separate ways after 8 years
spent together as husband and wife.
The 50-year-old singer Madonna and English screenwriter and film
director Ritchie, 40, have
a joint fortune that has been estimated to amount to $525 million, still no information
on the terms of the divorce has been given out so far.
Madonna and Guy Ritchie have an 8-year-old son named Rocco,
the couple having also adopted a boy from Malawi, David Banda, whose mother had
died not long after giving birth to him. The adoption was approved by a Malawian
court back in May 2006.
The pop-singer is also mother to 12-year-old Lourdes, whose
father is fitness trainer Carlos Leon, with whom Madonna became romantically
involved in 1994.
So far, no
details on the matter of the couple’s children’s custody have been revealed,
although media reports have stated that Madonna would live in the United States after the divorce, while Ritchie planned to stay in Britain.
Madonna and
Guy Ritchie met back in 1999 and one year later, on August 11, the singer gave
birth to son Rocco in Los Angeles. On December
22, 2000,
the couple married in Scotland.
On October
15 this year, a spokeswoman for Madonna and Ritchie confirmed the two
had decided to end their marriage.
