Pop superstar Madonna is refreshingly candid about the
heartache caused by her divorce from Guy Ritchie, her husband of eight years,
confessing that she feels grateful to have such a busy schedule that there is
no time to sit around and wallow in the sadness.
Madonna confessed to the Associated Press in an interview
Sunday that the current state of her personal life makes her feel sad. However,
she feels “very blessed” and “very lucky” for her professional life, as it
would be “horrible” if she had nothing to do and just sat around thinking of
her divorce.
Madonna, 50, and Guy Ritchie, 40, married in December 2000,
just several months after son Rocco was born. They are also parents to Lourdes, Madonna’s 12-year-old daughter from a previous
relationship with fitness trainer Carlos Leone, and David Banda, the 3-year-old
Malawi
boy whose adoption was finalized earlier this year.
The couple has long been haunted by speculation in the media
that their marriage was unraveling and this year in particular gossip appeared
to be more persistent than ever, prompting the Queen of Pop herself to publicly
deny such claims of separation.
Last month however the couple confirmed they were seeking a divorce.
They have both stuck to their work schedule ever since. Madonna is in the midst
of her highly successful Sticky and Sweet Tour, currently on its North American
leg, while Ritchie is in the UK
filming “Sherlock Holmes” for Warner Bros.
Madonna has also produced a documentary titled “I Am Because
We Are,” about the orphaned children of Malawi, scheduled for release in
December.
Last week, the estranged spouses were granted a preliminary
decree of divorce in London.
The music icon and her British director husband have a joint fortune estimated
to be worth around $525 million. Ritchie is said to not be seeking any of his
wife’s money but he would be entitled to child support.
According to some media reports, Rocco and David will spend
time both in the US and the UK, as Madonna
is said to be returning to her native country while Ritchie will remain in his.
Lourdes is said
to continue living with her mother.
