The actress is a apparently a little too much into that special “‘California dreaming’ state” her father was singing about in the ‘60s.
She was reportedly found "carrying what appeared to be heroin and cocaine in baggies and balloons," as Los Angeles International Airport officials say.
Phillips, 48, faces two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, heroin and cocaine, and one misdemeanor count of unauthorized possession of a needle or syringe, after she was caught in the act on August 27th.
The now more famous for her long time drug abuse problems than for her performances as an actress Mackenzie, daughter of John Phillips, founder of The Mamas & the Papas claims that her father taught her the wrong ways by exposing her to drugs when she was a kid.
She was never shy about admitting her issues and has made several stops in rehab in the past three decades, but that didn’t work apparently, so here she is, facing more than three years in jail.
A source close to Phillips confirmed that she has entered a drug-treatment program which will make her stop using, at least for a while. Due to her rehab admission, the trial that decides Mackenzie’s faith, originally set for Friday, has now been rescheduled for October.
This gives the actress a plenty of time to think about her father’s own addiction and premature death. In 1992, soon after having a liver transplant, due to long-term alcohol and drug abuse, the famous singer and songwriter was caught in the act by a photographer for the National Enquirer while he was drinking in a bar, which he later explained by saying "I was just trying to 'break in' the new liver."
