Actress MacKenzie Phillips, 48, was arrested Wednesday after
a baggage screening at LAX International
Airport. She was
discovered to possess drugs in several little bags inside the main luggage and
on herself. Phillips was heading to New
York when she failed to pass a security screening and
a secondary search.
She was allegedly caught in possession of heroin and cocaine
at the airport, according to People Magazine.
"She was being screened by airport security when a small amount of what
appeared to be heroin and cocaine were found on her person," Sgt. Jim
Holcomb said. "She was arrested at about 10 a.m. and is still in
custody."
Phillips has battled with the addiction for years now. This
is the reason why she was fired from the show “One Day at a Time” which was
aired between the 1970s and 1980s.Nevertheless she had her first major acting
role was at the age of 14 when she played Carol
in the 1973 film “American
Graffiti.” She also starred in
the Disney Channel series "So Weird" in the 1990s. She doesn’t appear
much in the spotlight though.
Phillips' publicist wasn't immediately available to comment
on the incident, People.com also said. She is the daughter of The Mamas and the
Papas late lead singer, John Phillips. She has been married three times. First
to Jeff Sessler, from 1979-1981, then to rock guitarist Michael Barakan between
1996 and 2000)and, since June 2005, she’s been married to music conductor Keith
Levenson. She also has one son, Shane, born in 1987.
